According to Fortune Business Insights the wedding photography industry is set to grow over 7% between 2023 and 2030. And with elopements becoming a popular way of getting married, photographers are in more demand and essential to capturing those memories.
When this company reached out they expressed a desire to redesign their website to attract high-end clients I knew it was going to include that extra challenge in making sure that we showcase her style and couples who are in the marketing for a photographer can quickly make the decision to reach out.
PROBLEM
THE WEDDING INDUSTRY IS INSANE
🚨 Before starting the redesign, I conducted a competitive analysis and compared the websites of other environmentally-related nonprofits to Green Chair Recycling’s current website.
Before starting the redesign I needed to see how the company's current site compared to their competitors websites.
The white used on other websites offers a modern and clean look. While black is often associated with elegance, it can make the website feel more confined.
Other websites noticeably features various images with minimal text. In contrast, Amber Victoria's website contains more extensive text.

02 | EMPHASIS OF VISUALS OVER TEXT
RESEARCH | COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
BUT FIRST, I NEEDED TO ASSESS THEIR CURRENT SITE
THE CURRENT WEBSITE:
SNAPSHOTS OF OTHER WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER WEBSITES:
The site uses a black color scheme, making it feel confined compared to others with a modern, clean white look. Additionally, while other websites prioritize visuals with minimal text to engage visitors, Amber Victoria's site contains more extensive text, which may not effectively target the right users.
Adopt a lighter color palette with more white to create a modern, clean look and prioritize visuals over extensive text to better engage visitors and target the desired audience. This will make the website more visually appealing and user-friendly.
PROBLEM
SOLUTION
After creating this sitemap, I noticed that there was a page about the client experience. I found this page to be irrelevant during this part of the user flow as this information is typically best used when the user is ready to sign the contract, not when they're browsing.
By having the information architecture of the site it really helped me get a bird's eye view of the content and how it can be grouped. The boxes in purple highlight the areas that were unnecessary or could be shortened.
Sitemap of the website
While reviewing the sitemap, I noticed a page dedicated to the client experience that seems out of place during the initial browsing phase. According to the Principle of Contextual Relevance, this information is more effective when presented later, as users are ready to sign the contract.
Reposition the client experience content to a later stage in the user flow, closer to contract signing. This aligns with Hick's Law, and reduces cognitive load, ensuring users encounter relevant information at the right time.
PROBLEM
SOLUTION
but I DIDN'T
stop there.
To ensure our redesign resonated with potential clients, I conducted a user survey to understand the decision-making process of those seeking wedding photographers. I did this because identifying which website pages and elements were most influential allowed me to tailor the user experience to better meet their needs.
How important is it that a wedding photographer's website matches what you envision for your wedding day?
How much does a wedding photographer's website reflecting a professional brand and image influence your decision?
How much does the layout and style of a wedding photographer's portfolio on their website affect your decision to hire them?
addressing the problems
After analyzing all my UX research, I created a prototype of the main page while keeping in mind the limitations of ShowIt. The company wanted
Redesign the Color Scheme: Introduce lighter shades like white, light gray, or soft pastels to balance the elegance and create a more open and inviting feel.
Enhance Visual Content: Increase the use of high-quality images and visuals that showcase the photographer’s work and attract potential clients.
Simplify Navigation: Ensure that navigation is intuitive, allowing users to find the information they need without confusion.
Issues Addressed:
